It’s a new year, and here in Japan I think we’d really like to put this 2024 back and pick another one. Although we have now (almost 9pm on Jan 3rd) gone over 24 hours without a disaster so maybe it was just the first two days….

Having said that, for me personally the year has started off fine with a hike that included the picture in the “About” page as well as this mountain shrine
Access to it is via many, many steps up a steep hill (70m ascent in 200m of horizontal distance according to my GPS) and then the 45 degree keyhole in the picture above. People who overate during the festive season or beforehand will not fit.
Anyway the reason for this post is that it’s s stake in the ground for a commitment to go back to regular blogging. As it happens I have a few things I want to write about and so I’m pretty sure I’ll manage to hit one post a day for the first week of the new year. Whether this lasts much beyond that or whether it fades like the usual new year’s resolution remains to be seen.
